Synopsis 101

Hi all.  I thought I’d share a great article for those of you who, like me, are preparing to write a synopsis.  Anyone who has tried to condense their story down to one to five pages knows that the task is not easy.

But help is here!  Susan Dennard has a wonderful example of how to write a synopsis on Pub Crawl.  Here’s the link.  I have gone back to it over and over as I’ve created different versions of my own synopsis.  I love the outline that she provides, and I hope that you’ll find it useful too.

  1. That “telling the ending part” is the hardest one for me! This is great, though, and timely because I actually realized the other night — at the pub — just how important a good synopsis is. If you can’t sum it up in half a pint, you’ve probably lost a reader! 🙂

    • I completely agree. I have the hardest time summing up my story in a few sentences, but you have to be able to do it – and don’t forget the confidence. If you don’t exude a strong belief in the story you have to tell, why would anyone else care about it? Having confidence in my story is the hardest part for me.
